![]() Our Mental Health Seminar held in collaboration with PINNACLE MEDICAL SPEAKOUT INITIATIVE tagged "Depression, Let's Talk" was a brilliant outing. In attendance were over 70 persons both the youths, women and men. The main speaker Dr. Maymunah Kadiri spoke about how depression is a silent killer today and a lot of people are not paying attention to it. She said that Mental Health Issues affects both kids, teenagers and adults alike. It is not just about perceptions but helping to create the right atmosphere for kids in the family. Also, being watchful and mindful of those around us always. Together we can become more mental health aware. For us as an organisation, the most exciting part of the day was when we got a call from a lady who said her husband had been struggling with depression and refuses to take his medication but after all she learnt during the Seminar, she feels better equipped to help support her husband and make sure he takes his medications and shows up for his hospital appointments too. She also said she no longer feels so isolated and alone. A youth who was a student at one of the universities said the seminar was the best he had attended this year because it helped him understand that suicide is not an option and he would solicit for medical help anytime he feels suicidal. He said he has been struggling with these thoughts since he can remember and he had a one on one with Dr. Maymunah Kadiri which he said is a positive step towards his recovery We would like to thank Maymunah Garuba Kadiri and all our other wonderful panelists for throwing more light of this very sensitive issues. You are all STARS. Keep shining. #Letstalkdepression #mentalhealthawareness #Depression #Suicide#PinnacleHealthServices #SpeakoutInitiative #CaywoodbrownFoundation |
