International Cancer Awareness Day

World Cancer Day was marked by the founder of the foundation, Her Excellency Dr Mrs Ipalibo Banigo the Deputy Governor of Rivers State by organizing a Cancer Awareness Program for women in collaboration with Elpis Sapphire Foundation and African Cancer Initiative. The women present were taught about Cancer, the 2 most prevalent forms of Cancer, the methods of prevention and cure. They also learnt how to do a breast self examination, the importance of good nutrition, and the importance of rest. All in all, it was a great success and those who attended learnt many new things which included:
That breast cancer not only affects women but men also
That  eating right and exercising can help prevent cancer
That multiple sexual partners can damage your cervix and lead to cervical cancer? Many people associate the risk of multiple sexual patents to Hiv infection but there's also a more deadly disease than HIV, cervical cancer.

That excessive smoking and excessive drinking of alcohol puts you at high risk of getting cancer
Also that taking oral contraceptives increases your risk of getting cancer
The conclusion was that health is wealth so we all need to pay attention to our health. See a specialist if you notice any abnormal changes in your body. Discharge of blood other than during menstruation period is not normal , see a doctor immediately. Don't take advice from just anyone please see a specialist. Early detection in cancer is key to total cure. Do regular medical checkups. Self examine your breast regularly. It's not a God-forbid matter. Cancer is no respecter of persons regardless of your age or status or religion. Do your best and let God take care of the rest.
